A black theatre troupe in Florida is being honored by the Florida Department of State's Division for Cultural Affairs for their excellence in putting on productions that encourage and exhibit diversity and inclusion. As stated in the Black Theatre chapter of our class book, often times black artists and stories are slighted and underrepresented because those that are telling and crafting the stories are often not a part of the black experience. These "experiences" turn out to be mere interpretation of black life, and lose authenticity of the story. I find it assuring and commendable that strives are being made to share the unique experiences of black individuals.
